About the dataset on Open Government Data

Welcome to the OECD Dataset on Open Government Data.

The OECD’s work on open government data aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of open government data, and to support governments in the design and implementation of open government data policies. The data contained within this dataset were gathered through the OECD Open Government Data survey 4.0, which was administered across OECD member countries in 2018. 32 OECD member countries reponded to the survey as well as non-OECD member countries.

The OECD datset on open government data was used to calculate the 2019 OECD Open Useful and Reusable data (OURdata) Index.

This dataset is made available free of charge. However, as it is protected by copyright, we ask you to cite the OECD as the source (OECD dataset on open government data).

About this questionnaire

The Open and Innovative Government division within the OECD Directorate for Public Governance conducted the survey in the second semester of 2018. The data was collected using an online survey questionnaire.

Survey respondents were predominantly high-level public officials working with digital government and open government in in OECD countries. To ensure accuracy and quality of the data, the OECD Secretariat has conducted an extensive data validation process. The data does only cover policies and practices at the central/federal government level, and excludes those at state/regional and local government level.
